Tarongas Horticulture team are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about and/or want to learn more about our native plant life, whilst actively contributing to providing our wild native animals with vitally important habitat.
The purpose of the role
Taronga’s Bushcare Volunteers will assist our Horticulture team by utilising the principles of bush regeneration to rehabilitate weed infested or otherwise degraded bushland into a healthy vegetation community composed of endemic Australian plants along Taronga’s Sydney harbour foreshore and within the zoo.
The volunteers will be taking part in plant identification, weeding and planting supervised by qualified staff and be assisting to restore our native vegetation. Volunteers will be provided with equipment and will be given onsite training in all aspects of the work including health and safety.
These bushland rehabilitated areas provide a vital ecological wildlife corridor and is home to many animals ensuring that Taronga remains a habitat for our wonderful native animals.
Position details
- This role is available Monday to Fridays – 8am-12pm
- Commitment of 1 day per week OR 1 day per fortnight available
- This position requires a minimum commitment of 12 months
- All Taronga Volunteers are required to supply a current Working with Children Check and complete eLearning modules and induction.
