How can you help the five Rhino species remaining in the world today?By visiting zoos like Taronga Western Plains Zoo you are helping to support the conservation and breeding programs in a zoo based environment. It’s also a great opportunity to learn more about these amazing creatures. In recent years, there has been an explosion of rhino deaths in Africa as poachers target the animals for their horns; this makes zoo efforts more important than ever before. If travelling abroad please do not purchase any products made from Rhino horn.  Although ornaments may look great on your coffee table you are ultimately funding the demand for poachers to go out into the wild and kill a rhino.  Plus there’s no medicinal value to use Rhino horn as a way to cure illnesses, despite what some people believe.Supporting organisations who undertake vital conservation projects in the wild to conserve these species such as the International Rhino Foundation is a great way to help those animals at risk from poaching. You can also share your Rhino photos and spread the word about these amazing animals on our facebook page at www.facebook.com/TarongaWesternPlainsZooRhino Keeper, Linda
