Taronga Piazza inspired by Giovanni Pilu
You can’t beat the smell of freshly baked muffins first thing in the morning – especially when they are taken out of the oven on their steel mesh trays and sold still warm at the counter.
A team effort between Taronga and Restaurant Associates saw Giovanni Pilu (of the two hatted restaurant Pilu at Freshwater) head up the new café at Taronga’s main entrance, and Taronga Piazza was born.
Begin your day with a Lavazza Coffee and a delicious free-range egg, pancetta and tomato panino (the Italian version of a bacon & egg roll) or go healthy and enjoy the fresh fruit salad with organic yoghurt and honey. Spoil your children with our specialty made baby chinos while you sit back and study the zoo map to plan your day ahead. For lunch it’s the salt baked salmon salad whilst sipping a fine Italian Pinot Grigio and watching the tree kangaroo in the courtyard’s gum tree or the peacock that strolls by the cafe.
Open from 9am, Taronga Piazza services not just the Zoo patrons, but locals too with 90 minutes free parking. As it’s at the Zoo’s Main Entrance, there is no need to pay any admission fee. Taronga Piazza is open before Taronga Zoo’s opening hours, however access to lockers, restrooms, ATM and children’s play area are available.
Overlooking Sydney Harbour, The View is not only Taronga’s first a la carte restaurant but is also the first Marine Steward Council (MSC) certified restaurant in Australia. All of our seafood has been sourced from fisheries that promote and support the MSC guidelines for sustainable fishing practices.
The View is open from 10am - 4pm for Lavazza espresso coffees and refreshments with lunch available from 11.30am. Zoo entrance is required to visit The View Restaurant. This space is also available for private bookings.
Please contact the Taronga Centre on 02 9969 2400 or firstname.lastname@example.org for further information or make a booking enquiry for The View Restaurant.
