Membership Enquiries

Where is the Zoo Friends Office?

The main Zoo Friends Office is at Taronga Zoo, Sydney. The office is situated at the historical tram shed, opposite the Main Entrance building. At Taronga Western Plains Zoo, membership sales and enquires are at the Information Centre.

What are the Zoo Friends Office hours? 

Like Taronga Zoo, the Zoo Friends office is open from Winter 9.30am - 4.30pm Summer 9.30am - 5.00pm, 365 days a year. Enquiries can also be made at the Information Centre at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, which  is open from 9am to 3.30pm, 365 days a year.

How much does it cost to be a Zoo Friends member?

Membership costs vary depending on the type of membership you require, for example adult or child, all of our membership costs can be seen Membership Rates

Is there a family membership?

Yes, Family membership covers two adults and two children and costs just $270. Plus you can add other memberships for additional children, other adult members or our transferable guest passes to create the membership group that suits you.

What is a transferable Guest Pass? 

Please contact the Zoo Friends office on 9969 2777 (option 3) to discuss. There is a $10 replacement fee for all lost cards to a maximum of $20.

Can I buy a transferable Guest Pass on its own? 

No, a transferable Guest Pass can only been bought if you already have an adult membership. Transferable Guest Passes represent excellent value for money as they can be used by anyone, even if they are not with the main member, for this reason you have to already be a member to purchase one.

What happens if I lose my Guest Pass? 

Advise us in writing that the Guest Pass has been lost and enclose a cheque for the amount of $10. We will then cancel the lost card and issue a new card.

Can I add an additional member or Guest Pass to my membership any time?

Yes you can but that pass will expire at the same time as the main member’s. 

In that case is the cost pro-rata?

No the full 12 month membership rate will still apply. With a Zoo Friends membership you only pay the equivalent of two and half times the admission price to the Zoo. It’s great value even if you join part way through a membership year, and don’t forget your membership fees go towards supporting Taronga’s conservation activities.

What happens if I lose my membership cards? 

Please advise us in writing that the cards have been lost. The cost for duplicates is $10 for each card to a maximum of $20.

What does my membership fee pay for?

Your membership supports both Zoos and critical conservation projects, giving children, tourists, wildlife lovers and many more the opportunity to experience wildlife in all its glory.

I recently visited the Zoo and now I wish I had joined Zoo Friends?

If it is less than two weeks since you visited Taronga Zoo and you still have your entry tickets and receipt, we will discount a membership by your entry cost into the Zoo, depending on what type of ticket you purchased. Just visit the office with your original entry ticket and receipt or complete a membership form and send copies in the post.

My child is still under four, why am I asked to pay a child renewal rate?

If your child is turning four within six months of your renewal date we will suggest that you pay the full child membership for him or her. However, you can choose to only pay for the other members on your membership and wait until their birthday to pay for your child’s membership. Whether you pay on the renewal or when your child turns four their membership will expire at the same time as the main member’s.

Offers and Events

How do I get tickets for the behind-the-scenes events?

Our behind-the-scenes events are very popular and have limited capacity. We notify all our members of the events for the upcoming three months in the quarterly magazine Wild Life. Tickets are then allocated by ballot. A list of forthcoming events is also available on the website.
