Taronga Western Plains Zoo welcomed an Eland calf on Tuesday 1 February 2011. The little female is doing very well and has already started to mingle with the older calves from last year’s breeding season.

The mother has been showing all the right signs of being nurturing and caring, bonding well with the calf. The calf is already fitting into the herd which is a positive sign. Visitors can often see the little one at the front of the exhibit playing with the other calves. This recent birth brings Taronga Western Plains Zoo’s Eland herd to a total of 17 with possibly another couple on the way. Fingers crossed!
