Taronga Western Plains Zoo’s male African Lion, Jasiri, has celebrated his 12th birthday.

Leading up to the big day ,Zoo volunteers were hard at work preparing his birthday present in the Zoo’s Enrichment Workshop. Several weeks in the making a sheep piñata took form and was covered with freshly-shawn Alpaca wool.

The celebrations began around midday with Zoo volunteers and visitors invited to help share this special occasion.  As a crowd started to gather at the front of the exhibit, Jasiri was presented with the sheep piñata filled with his favourite fresh meat.

Jasiri ran straight to his birthday present and, bit by bit, he ripped into it trying to find the treats inside whilst the crowd watched on and sang happy birthday.
