NAIDOC Week was celebrated in the last week of term at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, as it is usually celebrated in September in Dubbo.
This year we hosted two themed workshop days, which provided students with the opportunity to hear from elders and Aboriginal staff about bush tucker, Aboriginal dance and animal dreaming.
We also delivered Indigenous-themed ZoosnooZes at our beautiful Billabong Camp site.
Billabong Camp focuses on Australasian species and therefore provided the perfect context to talk about local Aboriginal culture. Students participated in Aboriginal art, traditional Indigenous games, dreaming stories and campfire activities.
We anticipate including Indigenous elements within all ZoosnooZ programs during 2015.
