New lace monitor admires the view

Taronga’s Backyard to Bush is now home to a new juvenile lace monitor named ‘Shaw’.
The name was chosen by keepers in honour of the botanist George Shaw, who gave the species its name in 1790.
Lace monitors are the second largest goanna species in Australia, meaning that Shaw could eventually grow to up to 2.1 metres in length.
The young male is very lively and is fond of sitting at the top of the tallest tree in the exhibit where he has the best view!
Come and visit Shaw in the Bush Friends area of Backyard to Bush. But remember, lace monitors live on the ground and in the trees, so keep your eyes peeled!
