Platypus Mural takes pride of place in the Zoo
A stunning new Bilaburang (‘platypus’ in the Wiradjuri language) Mural now is a feature of the Australian wildlife section at Taronga Western Plains Zoo following its unveiling today. The mural which has been created by digital graphics students at the Lincoln School, a Department of Education and Community school situated at Orana Juvenile Justice Centre along with local artists Alan Shillingsworth and Jack Randell. During the course of the school’s involvement in Project Platypus, students learnt about the species and the how to protect our environment as well as technical skills related to digital graphics and art. Over 20 people helped produce the mural, from the concept stage to the final product. The mural features local wildlife and has been created to educate visitors and the community about the importance of Australian wildlife and the importance of preserving our environment. It is now an artwork that will be admired by the thousands of visitors that pass through the Zoo’s gates every year.
