Discover some of Australia’s most unique and fascinating native animals in the Australia precinct at Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Explore the bushland-style walk-through and encounter iconic wildlife such as Wallabies, Quokkas, Koalas, Kangaroos, Echidnas and Emus.
Neighbouring habitats feature Tasmanian Devils and our small herd of quirky Emus. The Australian precinct offers a chance to slow down, explore and connect with the incredible wildlife found right here in our own backyard. Along the way, learn about the conservation work Taronga is doing to protect Australia’s incredible wildlife and ensure these species thrive into the future.

Koala
Did you know: Koalas can sleep up to 20 hours a day to conserve energy from their low-nutrient eucalyptus diet.

Emu

Did you know: Quokkas are known for their “smiling” expression, which has made them famous worldwide.

Echidna
Did you know: Echidnas are one of the only mammals that lay eggs.

Wallabies
Did you know: Wallabies can detect predators by rotating their ears independently to pick up sounds from different directions.

Tasmanian Devil
Did you know: Tasmanian Devils have one of the strongest bite forces of any mammal relative to their size.
