Support transformational conservation through Taronga’s large-scale landscape restoration initiative aimed at rewilding critically endangered Box Gum Woodlands in Northern New South Wales to protect threatened species and restore biodiversity. In phase one, Taronga is returning over 3,000 hectares of remnant land to usable habitat for Australia’s iconic species.

Responding to wildlife emergencies that have devastated native wildlife, Taronga is on the frontline as a first responder and last line of defence.
Through our Wild Futures project, we are expanding our two Wildlife Hospitals to help specialist veterinary teams care for more injured and displaced animals. Your donation helps ensure this lifesaving work can continue, giving vulnerable wildlife the chance to heal and return to the wild.
Taronga’s long-standing program has achieved successes across breeding, scientific innovation, reintroduction and population recovery. Nearly 500 zoo-bred Regent Honeyeaters have been released across New South Wales and Victoria to date with our team innovating to ensure the success of wild populations.
Taronga’s scientists and partners have even seen the revival of the Regent Honeyeater’s native song which had largely disappeared from wild populations. More work is needed to make certain this prolific pollinator doesn’t disappear from Australia’s sky.
Through research and critical wildlife care, Taronga has successfully returned the Greater Bilby to New South Wales seeing this vital species back in the state for the first time in 100 years.
With our partners, Taronga has generated critical knowledge on bilby movement, habitat use, reproduction and survival positioning Taronga and its 110-hectare Sanctuary located at Taronga Western Plains Zoo as the engine room for Australia’s national Greater Bilby recovery effort. Your support can ensure this icon remains safe in the wild.
