Workshop overview

Taronga is a unique organisation: part wildlife conservation leader, part tourism icon, and part scientific and educational institution. Its success relies on a strong and adaptive business model that supports global conservation programs while meeting the needs of a diverse range of stakeholders.

In this immersive Stage 6 Business Studies workshop, students use Taronga Zoo as a live case study to investigate the key elements of strategic business planning. Students will explore how Taronga develops and implements effective marketing strategies, manages operations, engages stakeholders and maintains financial sustainability, all while advancing conservation and education objectives.

Students gain rare insight into how strategic goals are achieved across marketing, operations and finance, and how each area contributes to Taronga’s broader mission. Through real examples and behind‑the‑scenes discussion, this workshop highlights the complexity, responsibility and innovation involved in managing a modern conservation‑focused organisation.
