Taronga Conservation Society Australia invites children to discover the science of wildlife conservation at Taronga Zoo Sydney free between Saturday 4 August and 19 August, in celebration of the Sydney Festival of Science.

The Sydney Festival of Science, 7-19 August, is part of National Science Week (11-19 August), Australia’s longstanding celebration of science and is produced by the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) and Australian Museum with support from Inspiring Australia.

To support children’s discovery of science and wildlife conservation, for each adult ticket sold one child may enter free by registering online at Taronga.org.au/ScienceWeek.

Taronga Zoo Sydney is also hosting the family event Status Critical: A Conservation Challenge to celebrate the Sydney Festival of Science.

Status Critical: A Conservation Challenge is a family adventure at Taronga Zoo Sydney included with admission on Saturday 18 August (15 and 16 August for schools) in collaboration with the University of Sydney. Families must work together to solve different conservation challenges for Taronga’s Legacy Species (no registration required).

Dr Justine O’Brien, Manager of Conservation Science said that Taronga’s Sydney Festival of Science family activities are an exciting chance to inspire children’s passion for broader STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

“Children are the next generation of wildlife conservationists, and this is a fun and exciting opportunity for families to discover their interest in real-world STEM,” said Dr O’Brien.

“We’re giving families, particularly children, insight into the real challenges we face in conservation science to inspire lasting connections with both wildlife and science,” Dr O’Brien said.
