Spring is the perfect time to visit Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo to see new arrivals and enjoy some time in nature.

Over the past six months the Zoo has welcomed a male Hippo calf, three Asian Small-clawed Otters and a female Giraffe calf.

“All of the new arrivals are doing really well and can be seen on exhibit. Both Giraffe calf Layla and Hippo calf Kani are quite confident and often observed away from their mums exploring their surrounds,” said Taronga Western Plains Zoo Director, Steve Hinks.

“The Otter pups are particularly active and have now learnt to swim, so are regularly spotted in the pond with their parents and older siblings.”

Taronga Western Plains Zoo is a unique family experience with a number of different ways to get around the zoo including driving, bike riding, walking or electric cart. The Zoo offers both bike and electric cart hire but guests are also welcome to bring their own bikes.

“So many great family holiday memories are made at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, with the whole family bike riding and exploring the Zoo grounds.”

“The school holidays are always a great opportunity to spend quality time together, reconnecting with the family and making those lasting holiday memories,” said Steve.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo’s new Waterhole precinct is sure to prove popular these holidays and as the weather warms up. The water play area along with the interactive meerkat exhibit will be real highlights for the kids.

“We encourage people planning to visit during the school holidays to pack the kids swimmers and towels as you’ll no doubt get to the Waterhole and they’ll be keen to enjoy the water play area.”

“In this current climate where all the state borders are closed it is the perfect time to explore NSW, in particular regional NSW. The Zoo is such a great safe destination with something for every member of the family,” said Steve.

All tickets to the Zoo must be purchased online via the Zoo’s website. Tickets are valid for two consecutive days so plan to make the most of your visit to the Zoo.

For those looking to have a longer stay in Dubbo and explore the region, there’s also the Great Big Adventure Pass, a multi-attraction ticket that provides access to the Zoo, Old Dubbo Gaol, Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitor Experience and the Wellington Caves. The Great Big Adventure Pass is available online only.
