Taronga was once again thrilled to today host the 23rd annual pilgrimage of the Sisters of the Order of Perpetual Indulgence and their dedicated acolytes.

 The Sisters, including Mother Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, led their flock through a guided tour of the Zoo featuring special animal encounters and stopped to view the popular Free-Flight Bird Presentation, all to the delight of Keepers and guides, who are always thrilled to host the vibrant and diverse group.

 Taronga Zoo Executive Director, Cameron Kerr, said: “The Sisters’ annual pilgrimage is always a highlight of the year for us.”

 “The Sisters’ appreciation and knowledge of our unique wildlife is inspiring and their continuing support and fundraising for the Zoo is always greatly appreciated. Over the years they have raised thousands of dollars that’s gone directly into our conservation work.”

 "The Mardi Gras festival is a wonderful opportunity to show the wildest side of Sydney, bringing visitors close to animals from the tiny Feathertail Gliders to our new meerkat pups, as well as our iconic kangaroos and koalas.”

 Taronga’s bushland setting with its unique location offers tours daily, showcasing wildlife with a backdrop of panoramic vistas of Sydney’s magnificent Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and the city skyline and is just short ferry ride away.

 A must-see is the Australian Nightlife Exhibit, home to the Greater Bilby, one of Taronga’s 10 Centenary Legacy Species the Zoo has committed to protecting for the next decade thanks to the support from Centenary Presenting Partner ANZ.

 “Taronga staff are once again proud to be marching in the Mardi Gras parade on Saturday, surrounding a float representing the Legacy Species we’re supporting in our Centenary year to show that compassion for wildlife is in our hands,” said Cameron.
