Taronga Zoo building an improved car park

Taronga Zoo building an improved car park

6/2/2008 Taronga will upgrade car parking from February 2008 to improve visitor and community convenience and safety. When completed in early 2009, the new car park will reduce street parking by taking 400 cars off the streets. This will improve safety and traffic flows for visitors and contribute positively to the Zoo's environmental footprint. To reduce inconvenience during the construction phase, park and ride options, along with discounted admission and public transport are available. Over 50 percent of zoo visitors already use public transport to visit Taronga. Vehicles will be removed from the approach to the heritage-listed Edwardian Main Entrance building, making it people-friendly while acting as a catchment for rainwater to service the upper levels of the Zoo. A bus zone will be built away from the Main Entrance and out of the main traffic flows on Bradleys Head Road.  This work will compliment the restoration of the Main Entrance building which will become the heart of a new entrance plaza that eliminates the current queuing systems while providing multiple entries for visitors to begin exploring the Zoo.
