Inaugural Grandparents Day a grand success

Thousands of people across NSW took the opportunity to celebrate the invaluable contribution grandparents make to their families and the broader community on NSW’s first ever Grandparents Day.On Sunday October 30, grandparents and their families celebrated by attending community events held by local councils, Clubs NSW, schools and libraries.There was something for all grandparents and their families, with events as varied as Dungog Cars for Cancer, a cruise along theMurray River, Nonni in Cucina (Grandparents in the Kitchen) at the Leichhardt Italian Festa and the feature Grandparents Day event at Taronga Zoo.The tireless work of volunteers in organising these events was vital in making the day a success.Grandparents Day was supported by five ambassadors, raising awareness of the important role grandparents play in our community. This year’s ambassadors were: Lucy Porter, Barbara Holborow, Joe Commisso and John and Colleen Fahey.Grandparents Day will be held annually in NSW on the last Sunday of October.
