School students taught to fish responsibly during Zoo workshop

Today over 130 school students were learning about wetlands, the importance of healthy eco-system and how to be a responsible fisherman at an outdoor educational workshops at the Zoo.Students got tips about rod rigging, knot tying and fishing rules and regulations as well as catch and release handling techniques from the Department of Primary Industries Fisheries Officers and Fishcare volunteers.As part of the day’s activities they also toured the Wild Asian Wetlands and assisted with habitat assessment to determine if the eco-system is thriving.Students had the opportunity to have a hands-on learning experience today and judging by their reactions and comments it has been a fun learning environment and they will be taking home lots of skills and knowledge that is only going to have a positive impact on the environment.
