Peanuts are a real treat for the elephants, so at lunch time we scattered peanuts around their paddock as part of their enrichment activities. It’s a case of first in gets the peanut and the girls quickly scout around the yard searching out the treats. Luk Chai hasn’t quite got the hang of finding the peanuts but while watching the girls he occasionally stumbles over one.He’s been watching the adults eating and copying the way they pick up small objects with their trunks so when he stumbles on a peanut he carefully tries to scoop it up. It takes him a while and if he’s not quick enough one of the girls comes over and steals it from him!He’ll be relying on mum’s milk for a few years to come, but it’s great to see that he’s beginning to taste their food.
