Sydney society turned out for wildlife at the Taronga Foundation’s annual dinner at The Ivy last night, raising $206,000 for conservation programs, including conservation of the endangered Southern Corroboree Frog. They were inspired by Taronga Herpetologist, Michael McFadden’s tales of daring-do on the ranges of the Kosciusko National Park as he and Office of Environment and Heritage rangers raced the coming winter snows to return 800 eggs bred at Taronga and Zoos Victoria to the highland habitat where just nine male frogs had been calling in the previous survey.Michael’s words were sweetened by a spectacular Corroboree Frog cake from Planet Cake, accurate in all its colourful glory, but somewhat larger than the tiny frogs themselves which are about as long as the first joint of an adult human’s thumb.Wildlife philanthropy for the Taronga Foundation and the  multitude of conservation projects it supports is looking good, with the next wild event set down for November 23’s Taronga Foundation Zoofari event.
