Today, Cuddles and her keepers made their mark ‘For The Wild.’  Cuddles added a unique touch to her pledge as an ambassador for her wild counterparts by giving the canvas a little bit of a blow painting before giving it her signature trunk seal.Zoos today play a critical role in conservation and what you generally see at the Zoo is just the tip of the iceberg.  We are all about being for the wild, staff are constantly out in the field helping with research and conservation projects for example, the Zoo’s Senior Veterinarian was just in Sumatra helping with the birth of a Sumatran Rhino at the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary. As part of the Zoos pledge to the wild it announced that $100,000 will be provided towards the Elephant protection project in the Kui Buri National Park in southern Thailand, thanks to Taronga and Taronga Western Plains Zoo and Zoos Victoria.  This funding will help construct and maintain two guard stations at key locations to help prevent elephant-human conflict.
