Taronga Western Plains Zoo will be holding an open day at the Wildlife Hospital on Wednesday 22 February 2012 where visitors can take a tour of the facility led by one of the Zoo’s vets.Tours will take place between 10am – 12pm and run every half hour from the Savannah Visitor Plaza, providing visitors and the local community with the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and see what takes place in the Wildlife Hospital and the role of the veterinary team in the Zoo.Every year the Zoo’s Wildlife Hospital sees over 300 wildlife cases ranging from birds of prey such as Wedge-tail Eagles through to a variety of reptiles and marsupials. Many of these animals are found by caring members of the community who bring them in to receive free veterinary treatment and care so that they can be rehabilitated and released back into the wild.Come along to the open day and learn about this special part of the Zoo.  >> Register your interest by emailing us at wpz@zoo.nsw.gov.au or call 68811400.
