Rhino Keeper, KatieWorld Rhino Day started in 2010 to raise awareness and funds for the plight of all Rhino species in the world.  A current horn poaching crisis in Africa and deforestation in Asia have contributed to an alarming decline in all Rhino numbers. To mark World Rhino Day, Taronga Western Plains Zoo is holding a number of activities over the weekend of 22 and 23 September 2012 and will be raising funds for our conservation partner, the International Rhino Foundation. Our Zoo visitors can learn more about the world’s Rhino species by following the Rhino trail of keeper talks as well as seeing our special Rhino palm print installation created by school groups at the Zoo’s Education Centre.Over the weekend there will be lots of ways to show your support for Rhinos.  On Saturday 22 September all proceeds from the jumping castle in the playground will go direct to the International Rhino Foundation - talk about jumping to help rhinos bounce back!Funds raised will assist the International Rhino Foundation’s work in Africa and Asia including breeding programs, veterinary care and research in sanctuaries, and operating anti-poaching units, which patrol parks to protect rhinos against poachers.Come along and enjoy a great weekend at the Zoo and support one of the world’s most iconic animal species.
