Frequently asked questions

Does my ticket include same day Zoo entry?

There is no same day Zoo entry included in the Christmas concert ticket, please ensure to purchase a Zoo admission ticket in conjunction with your Christmas Concert ticket.

Where can I park and what is the cost?

The car park is $9 for Zoo Friends and $18 for general patrons entering after 4pm. We encourage public transport use, the car park is very limited. No pre-booking necessary, car park ticket can be purchased on arrival as per normal day time operations. 

Can we use public transport?

Ferries will be running from Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo only up until 7pm (last Ferry departs at 7pm). The last ferry from Taronga Zoo back to Circular Quay is at 7pm, so buses will be the only available option to return back into the city. No additional public transport services outside of normal operations will be running. We advise if patrons are using public transport to visit the Transport NSW website or call 131500 for up-to-date public transport information closer to the date.

Can we BYO food?

Please note patrons are welcome to bring into the Zoo their own food and non-alcoholic sealed beverages, however, due to licensing laws we cannot allow patrons to BYO alcohol. Bags will be checked on arrival and alcoholic beverages will be confiscated if discovered. Alcohol will be available for sale on site and a price list sent to you closer to the night. Glass is prohibited on site. 

Are there food and beverages for sale on the night?

Yes! The following will be for sale: pies, sausage rolls, ice creams, wraps, sandwiches, snacks, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages including beer, wine and sparkling; by the bottle and glass. The Taronga Food Market will be closed on this evening.

NOTE: menu subject to change. 

Can we purchase hampers?

Unfortunately, there will be no hampers available for the evening. We do encourage people to bring their own picnics, or alternatively the Bakehouse located down at the Concert Lawns will be open for the evening. 

Can we purchase Chillazy chairs and picnic rugs?

Unfortunately, there will be no Chillazy chairs & picnic rugs to be purchased on the evening. We encourage you to bring your own picnic rugs and low-level chairs to the event. 

Will there be any animals on display?

No animal exhibits will be on display for this event, however, by purchasing a general admission Zoo entry ticket you are welcome to explore the grounds during opening hours (9.30am to 4.30pm).

What happens if it rains?

Come prepared for this outdoor event with appropriate weather protection gear as the event will still proceed if it is raining. No refunds are available. Ponchos, coats and hats are preferable to umbrellas. Ponchos can be purchased from the Retail store within the Zoo grounds. 

Where can we sit?

The concert lawn is a picnic ground which is suitable for picnic rugs and cushions. Low chairs are permitted. The area has no reserved seating and is all general admission. 

Is there wheelchair accessibility?

Yes! The concert lawns is accessible by wheelchair and pram.

For your safety and security, there are key considerations and guidelines all guests must adhere to for this event:

Key considerations

  • Safety and security: the Christmas Concert is a family event. For the safety of other guests as well as our resident animals, any guest who is found acting in a socially disruptive manner may be removed from the Zoo grounds at the discretion of Taronga Zoo security and management. All guests are expected to keep alcohol consumption to a socially acceptable standard
    NOTE: Zoo Management reserve the right to remove from the Zoo premises anyone in a state of intoxication or who serves liquor to a minor
  • Prohibited items: The following items are prohibited and not allowed to be brought into the Zoo grounds; alcohol, unsealed bottles, portable BBQs, balloons, candles, sparklers, party poppers, party horns and/or any firework paraphernalia. This is in addition to the Zoo’s standard prohibited items list which can be found on our website
  • Smoking: Taronga Zoo is a smoke-free site. Smoking is prohibited in all zoo buildings, vehicles and outdoor areas. Guests who wish to smoke need to exit the zoo via the main entrance where there is a designated smoking area at Taronga. We request that guests dispose of their cigarette butts responsibly
  • Glass and litter: Guests are encouraged to avoid bringing glass to the Zoo. Please use the bins provided and recycle where possible or take your rubbish with you. We encourage guests to bring reusable water bottles, and picnic cutlery and crockery where possible
