Guest Experience Volunteers - Taronga Zoo Sydney!

We are looking for enthusiastic and customer service focussed individuals to join our amazing Guest Experience Volunteer team.

We are delighted to announce that Taronga Zoo, Sydney is looking for Guest Experience volunteers who are interested in contributing to creating transformational experiences for guests at our award winning site located on the beautiful Sydney Harbour. 

What do our Guest Experience Volunteers do?

Taronga Guest Experience Volunteers are at the forefront of delivering memorable experiences for the 1.7 million guests that visit Taronga Zoo each year. With keeper talks, animal encounters, unique experiences and special events, Taronga inspires our guests to be ‘For the Wild’! 

We are looking for enthusiastic and customer service focussed individuals to join our amazing Guest Experience Volunteer team. These volunteers deliver amazing experiences to our guests, and must be passionate about conservation and sustainability, and able to communicate our critically important messages to groups and individuals from both Australia and overseas.

What will I be doing at the Zoo?

Guest Experience Volunteers provide guest support and animal interpretation across Taronga in areas including Nura Diya – our immersive Australian precinct, African Savannah, Wild Asia – and more. In addition, you’ll spend time assisting our guests on arrival at the Information Desk, providing them with a warm welcome and helping them make the most of their day. Our volunteers perform wayfinding duties and interpret our activations and conservation campaigns and have the opportunity to get involved with guiding tours and supporting with Taronga's many events throughout the year.   

Important Position details

  • Minimum commitment is 12 months, either 1 regular day per week OR 1 day per fortnight
  • Available 7 days per week, Monday to Sunday
  • Shifts: 8.45am-4pm OR a shorter shift of 10am-3pm
  • Successful applicants will be required to attend a short interview on either Wednesday the 23rd OR Thursday the 24th of August
  • Successful individuals will be required to attend 3 (three) mandatory Induction & Training sessions:
  • Session 1: Thursday 21st September OR Saturday 23rd September 
  • Session 2: Thursday 28th September OR Saturday 30th September
  • Session 3: Thursday   5th October  OR Saturday 5th October
     

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A passion for conservation and a willingness to learn of Taronga’s activities and programs 
  • Commitment, punctuality, reliability and a professional, friendly manner 
  • Experience or interest in guiding, interpretation or education 
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and excellent customer service skills 
  • Problem solving ability, including resolving customer feedback 
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a diverse team 
  • A good level of fitness and stamina and the ability to work in all weather conditions whilst navigating a steep site 
  • All Volunteers are required to acquire and maintain a valid Working with Children Check (FREE for volunteers).

A Volunteer Programs fee of $99 will be charged to successful applicants.
