To help us shape a future for wildlife and people, we’ve created the Taronga Institute of Science and Learning, a world-class facility right here at Taronga Zoo Sydney.
The Taronga Institute puts science on display, creating an inspiring and collaborative environment for future generations to become champions for change.
This unique space is also a purpose-built research and education centre onsite at Taronga Zoo Sydney and is the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Taronga Institute houses dedicated science labs to support Taronga’s science team, including a multi-disciplinary lab, teaching lab, wildlife health lab and reproductive biology lab.

The Institute is home to three immersive habitat classrooms, the first of their kind in the world. These multisensory spaces are themed around rainforest, desert and woodland habitats and provide authentic learning experiences that align with school curriculums.

Meet Taronga’s scientists and wildlife managers who make pioneering discoveries each and every day.
The CryoDiversity Bank holds the largest collection of living cryopreserved coral cells in the world. Find out more about how Taronga is using biobanking to secure genetic diversity and contribute to species recovery across Australian ecosystems.
The Registry is committed to the preservation of Australia’s biodiversity through increased understanding of the interaction among animals, the environment, and disease-causing agents.
