Workshop overview

Biodiversity plays a vital role in maintaining the balance of Earth’s ecosystems. In this Stage 6 workshop, students deepen their understanding of the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection, examining how species change over time and the impact of selective pressures on survival. Using examples from species observed by Charles Darwin, learners analyse evidence for evolution, including comparative anatomy, variation and environmental interactions.
 
Through close observation of a range of Australian and exotic animals, students investigate structural, physiological and behavioural adaptations and consider the pressures that shape their evolution and the significance of biodiversity in sustaining healthy ecosystems, ultimately grounding key concepts in real‑world examples.
