Workshops

A one-hour Taronga educator-led session in our immsersive classrooms, followed by self-guided exploration of the Zoo.

Taronga's hands‑on educational workshops bring learning to life through close‑up encounters with wildlife and real conservation practice. From STEM and sustainability to digital skills and animal science, each program is designed by Department of Education Teachers to connect curriculum outcomes with engaging, purposeful learning.

Self-guided excursions

Our self‑guided excursions allow teachers and students the freedom to explore the Zoo, supported by learning resources.

A self-guided excursions offer an engaging way for students to explore the Zoo and build their scientific and critical-thinking skills at their own pace. You can tailor the experience to suit your learning outcomes and students’ interests. The self-guided resources that will support your visit have been developed by teachers and are linked to the NSW Curriculum outcomes.

Full-day programs

Our full‑day programs are designed to connect your chosen learning area with wildlife, conservation, and real‑world applications.

Spend a full day immersed at the Zoo, where learning comes to life through a blend of engaging educator‑led sessions, expert workshops and activities. Students have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of curriculum concepts while observing animals, habitats, and conservation practices in action. These programs offer for Science and Geography across Stages 2, 5, and 6.

Zoomobile Incursions

Can’t make it to the Zoo? We’ll come to you! Taronga’s Zoomobile brings amazing animals and engaging learning experiences to schools, vacation care, community groups, libraries and workplaces. 

Suitable for all age groups.

Zoosnooz Overnight Program  

An overnight educational sleepover at Taronga Zoo Sydney.

Stay overnight at the Zoo and take part in a hands‑on learning adventure. Students get to explore wildlife and conservation through immersive after-dark encounters and tours. Guided by Taronga’s expert educators, students gain a deeper understanding of animals, the environment, and the actions we can all take to help protect it—creating lasting memories and meaningful connections beyond the classroom.

Twilight Safari evening program

An after‑hours education tour designed for school groups.

The Twilight Safari invites students to explore the fascinating behaviours of nocturnal animals, uncover conservation stories, and experience the Zoo in a whole new light. With guided tours, hands‑on learning, and exclusive evening access, this immersive excursion brings classroom curriculum to life long after the sun goes down.

International student groups

A tailored educational programs for international student groups visiting Sydney. 

Our specialised education workshops immerse students in Australia’s native wildlife while exploring key themes of conservation and sustainability, allowing students a unique opportunity to come up close to a variety of our animals in our world class immersive habitat classrooms. Choose from a standard workshop or enquire to have a bespoke learning experience created for you. For tertiary students there are options to incorporate specialised lectures, practicums and behind the scenes tours.
