Workshop overview
This full‑day immersive program explores the marine environment and the impact of pollution on our oceans and coastal ecosystems. Designed for Stage 2 and Stage 5 Geography students, the Litter Free Oceans Study Day develops students’ understanding of human–environment interactions while empowering them to take meaningful action in their local community.
Throughout the day, students deepen their geographical knowledge of Sydney Harbour and investigate sustainable solutions to real‑world environmental problems. Guided by Taronga staff, learners examine how pollution affects marine species, habitats and ecosystem health, while developing the inquiry skills needed to collect, interpret and communicate environmental data.
All workshops and materials are stage‑appropriate, ensuring students build the skills and knowledge required for their level. By engaging directly with scientists, conservation teams and community programs, students are challenged to consider the positive changes they can make within their own environments and the role they play in protecting marine wildlife.
