Certificate courses

At Taronga Training Institute (RTO 91359) the Zoo is your classroom. Our nationally accredited Animal Care courses immerse you in real zoo environments, where you’ll learn hands‑on from experienced animal care experts and gain practical skills at Australia’s most iconic zoos.

  • Certificate II in Animal Care (high school students)

    Turn your passion for animals into a career in animal care. This entry‑level qualification provides the essential skills and practical knowledge needed to work safely and confidently with animals in professional care settings.
     
    This course is available to Year 11 and Year 12 students and can be completed while studying at school. Available at Taronga Zoo Sydney, Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo, and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (Gold Coast).

  • Certificate III in Wildlife and Exhibited Animal Care

    This course builds on the skills and knowledge gained in the Certificate II and provides a continued learning pathway toward a career as a zookeeper or animal attendant. You’ll deepen your understanding of animal behaviour, welfare, and care practices in exhibited animal environments.
     
    Face‑to‑face training is available at Taronga Zoo Sydney, Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo, Zoos Victoria, Perth Zoo, and Adelaide Zoo.
