Work with animals and real zoo keepers hearing amazing stories
Work Experience Applications are now closed for 2018!
Taronga Western Plains Zoo's Work Experience program is for school students who are interested in pursuing a career in zoo keeping, animal care, and tourism/education or zoo horticulture. The program is suitable for school students in years 10, 11 and 12.
In the interests of fairness, only one successful applicant per school will be considered and possibly assigned to a Zoo animal division for one week (Monday to Friday), excluding school and public holidays. Careers advisers and students are required to read and sign the work experience information package.
Taronga Western Plains Zoo's Work Experience divisions may include
- Australian Animals
- Ungulates and Primates
- Reptiles and Amphibians
- Taronga Wildlife Hospital
- Education / Tourism
Students with special needs
Taronga Western Plains Zoo accepts students with special needs, as long as support is available and students are suitable for particular Zoo work areas. Please contact the Education Centre staff to discuss necessary arrangements.
Applications for 2019 will open October, 2018.
Please be aware that Taronga Conservation Australia Work Experience selection panel will only accept one Application for either Taronga Zoo Sydney or Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo. Students are advised to apply for their preferred site only. Any duplicate submission will void your application. Priority will be given to NSW residents.
Applications close December 2018.
Ultimately your school will need to approve the work experience placement so please direct all of your communication to the school careers adviser. Please do not contact the Zoo as our arrangements are also subject to the school calendar and we will be required to contact the school.
