This morning a Barking Owl chick arrived to be raised by zoo keeper Erin and then trained for the QBE Free Flight Bird Show. It is so cute. We don’t yet know if it’s male or female as we usually have to wait until they grow up, but this can happen very quickly in the owl world. It only takes around two months and then they are fully grown and ready to start flying. At the moment the chick only weighs 407 grams! It’s covered in white fluffy down and is very interested in its new environment, constantly scanning the room, turning its head upside down, backwards and nearly all the way around.
