We officially named our calf today, “Tukta” (pronounced ‘
took tuh’) it means ‘doll’ in Thai. It’s a name that is used as a sign of
affection in Thailand. We also think it’s appropriate because she is our first
female calf and so beautiful and petite looking compared to our male calves. By
continuing the Thai theme it pays our respect to the country where our herd
originated from and retains their Thai heritage. It’s also a name that is very
different to our other elephants, so she will find it easy to distinguish it
from the others.
Luk Chai and Pathi Harn, continue to try and entice Tukta
to play with them. They often lay down right in front of her and she will take
up the invitation to play by crawling over the top of them. This seems to be a
game the boys can’t get enough of.
Our little girl continues to thrive. She weighed 128kg this
morning so has put on 8kg in 4 days! It seems like she as a good appetite just
like her mum, Pak Boon.
