Regent Honeyeater Breeding Success

Regent Honeyeater Breeding Success

As we continue gearing up for Taronga’s first bird festival, the bird department is also busy preparing for the coming breeding season including continuing our work with the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater.

In July/August, 12 pairs of Regent Honeyeaters were introduced for the 2014-2015 breeding season and keepers have been working hard collecting spider web and other necessary nesting materials to provide for the birds.

Several chicks have already been confirmed in nests and most others are incubating eggs.  Chicks bred over the season will become potential candidates for the 2015 release.

Stay tuned for further updates on the Regent Honeyeater program and be sure to stop by our Wollemi or Moore Park Aviaries to catch a glimpse of this spectacular species!By Keeper Sprina Liu, Bird Keeper.
