The English indie rock band: The Wombats, ask you to donate today, your kind gift can:
- Help fund Taronga’s Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat breeding program.
- Help support Taronga's Nutrition and Veterinary teams gain essential information about the growth of wombat joeys born in our breeding program.
- Help to fund Taronga’s work with orphaned wild wombats cared for in rescue and rehabilitation settings.
Their future remains uncertain.
With their populations decreasing in the wild, Southern Hairy-nosed Wombats are currently classified as Near Threatened.
Recent research has found that previously reported colonies of wombats have disappeared completely. With their numbers decreasing and the deadly threat of Sarcoptic mange, which is currently considered the greatest threat to wild wombats, support from generous people like you is essential to protect Southern Hairy-nosed Wombats.
Together we can protect them.
Taronga has been a successful part of the Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat breeding program since 2011. Providing essential information about the species breeding behaviours, which are naturally performed in underground burrows. And resulting in the incredible production of ten joeys.
Our Wombat keepers have also used this opportunity to learn important information about the joeys born in our breeding program, in order to help orphaned wild wombats that are cared for in rescue and rehabilitation settings.
