Ukraine Emergency Appeal

Ukraine Emergency Appeal

Support Ukrainian zoos and wildlife parks.

The invasion of Ukraine by the Russian military has had a devastating impact on Ukraine – its people, landscape and wildlife. Help Ukrainian zoos and aquariums by contributing to the Emergency Fund.

Coordinated by the Zoo & Aquarium Association of Australasia, this region-wide fundraising event will raise funds to support the three major zoos and aquariums in Ukraine who continue to suffer as a result of ongoing conflict (Kiev, Kharkiv and Nikolaev). The Russia-Ukraine war has had far-reaching consequences beyond human suffering, extending to the innocent inhabitants of Zoo and Aquarium enclosures. Zoo animals in Ukraine have faced disrupted care, damage to facilities, psychological stress, limited veterinary support, and ultimately a setback in conservation efforts. As the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues, it is crucial to recognize the plight of these animals and prioritize their well-being.

The money raised through this fundraiser will work towards the following: Providing general and medical care to their animals Transferring animals to zoos and aquariums in bordering countries where it is no longer safe or viable for them to stay in Ukraine Strengthening damaged animal care facilities or enclosures for the upcoming winter. Some funds will also be used to support the care of animals already transferred to bordering EAZA members.
