Construction for the expansion of the Elephant facility at Taronga Western Plains Zoo is progressing well and has seen a lot of work completed in the past seven months.  Fencing for the new yard adjacent to the main Elephant exhibit is now completed with only the pool and shelter to be finished. Construction has also commenced on the new paddock behind the scenes with fencing well underway.Foundations are being laid for the base of the new state-of-the-art Elephant barn which will be able to house different herd combinations including both males and females.The facility is being specifically designed for the long term needs of the herd and to support the regional Asian Elephant breeding and conservation program.
