Fanana, is an eight month old male Giraffe which is currently awaiting to go on the trip of a lifetime to neighbouring New Zealand.  Keepers are currently conditioning the young Giraffe to be comfortable in his transport crate so that he will be relaxed for the journey.  This process takes a few weeks but in the meantime the logistics of the trip are being finalised, so the journey goes seamlessly.Fanana will go by road from Dubbo to Sydney and unlike many other Giraffe moves the Zoo has coordinated, Fanana will actually go to New Zealand by air!  Since Fanana is only eight months old, the young giraffe is still short enough to for the crate to fit in an aeroplane’s freight hold.Fanana is heading to Orana Wildlife Park in Christchurch and will join the herd there following quarantine. Once old enough, Fanana will become part of their breeding program and will hopefully start his own family and create a new genetic bloodline for the species.
