A unique and rare opportunity to get involved with helping out our amazing wildlife - Our Wildlife Hospital Volunteers will provide hands on support to our wonderful Wildlife Hospital Nurses & Vets, providing care to sick and injured native animals.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo is looking for Wildlife Hospital Volunteers who are interested in providing animal husbandry assistance in our state of the art Wildlife Hospital in the areas of cleaning, waste disposal, sick and injured animal husbandry and food preparation.

Rain, hail or shine, our Volunteers at the Wildlife Hospital get involved with every aspect of animal care, so expect to be cleaning, chopping, wheelbarrowing, shovelling, sweeping, and everything else it takes to ensure our wild patients and sometimes our zoo animals are provided with the highest level of welfare possible. 

Position overview

  • 12 month position – At the end of which volunteers may reapply
  • Volunteer positions are available 7 days per week, Weekdays and Weekends
  • Shifts will be between 5-8 hours in length, and take place between 8am-4pm
  • Applicants successful in progressing to the next stage will be required to attend a short interview
  • Successful individuals will be required to complete induction and eLearning modules

To be successful in this role you will have

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a diverse team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish good working relationships.
  • A commitment to wildlife care and conservation.
  • Ability to work independently, follow written work procedures and take responsibility for tasks.
  • A good level of fitness and stamina, including the ability to bend, squat, lift and do repetitive movement.
  • The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated commitment, punctuality and reliability.
  • All Volunteers are required to acquire and maintain a valid Working with Children Check (FREE for volunteers).
  • All volunteers who work with, or care for, an exhibited animal are required to declare any convictions or charges in connection with ‘relevant offences’
  • Agree and comply with the Taronga Code of Conduct, Taronga Volunteer Policy and all relevant policies and procedures

Cost 

A Volunteer Programs fee of $58 will be payable by successful applicants.This Volunter Programs Membership Fee enables all of Taronga’s Volunteer benefits;
