Become a Nutrition Volunteer

Taronga has vacancies for volunteers in the fascinating role of assisting with food preparation for the animals at Taronga Zoo.

Volunteers will learn about the dietary requirements of our unique and varied animals, assisting our Nutrition Officers to receive, handle, store and prepare food.

The purpose of the role

Assist in the provision of nutritious and fresh food for the animals’ onsite in accordance with the guidelines set out by the Zoo Nutritionist.

Position details

  • This role is available all days, Monday to Sunday, 7.30am-2pm.
  • Applicants must be available to work at least one day per fortnight, weekly preferred
  • This position requires a commitment of 12 months
  • All Taronga Volunteers are required to attend and complete induction & training

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Show commitment, punctuality, reliability, and a professional, friendly manner
  • Demonstrated skills in food preparation and an interest in learning about animal diets
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail 
  • Be able to maintain accuracy and motivation with repetitive tasks
  • Experience in food preparation an asset
  • Enjoy working with people and the ability to work effectively within a diverse team environment
  • Please note: this role will have no animal contact

A Volunteer Programs fee of $99 will be charged to successful applicants.**
