Vietnam is a country whose previous level of high biodiversity has suffered from many years of conflict, habitat loss and unsustainable killing and collection of wildlife. Pu Mat National Park is one of Vietnam’s largest protected areas and retains significant populations of threatened species, including the Asian Elephant and the Northern White-cheeked Gibbon. Vietnam’s Government has national plans for the protection and conservation of the country’s primates and Asian elephants.
Fauna and Flora International will work to strengthen the conservation and protection of wildlife in the Pu Mat National Park, with a focus on Asian elephants and Northern White-cheeked Gibbons. This includes:
• Working to determine threats to develop a strategy to address human elephant conflict
• Monitoring of the gibbon population in Pu Mat National Park and applying appropriate interventions to mitigate threats
• Working with the community to develop and apply strategies to reduce people-driven threats to wildlife in Pu Mat National Park whilst also improving peoples’ wellbeing.
