Open to students from years 10, 11 and 12, Taronga Zoo Sydney offers school work experience opportunities for those who are interested in pursuing a career in zoo keeping, animal care, tourism or zoo horticulture. Applications for 2018 are already open and will close Friday 23 February 2018.
In the interests of fairness, only one successful applicant per school will be considered and possibly assigned to a Zoo animal division for one week (Monday to Friday), excluding school and public holidays. Careers advisers and students are required to read and sign the work experience information package.
Taronga Zoo Sydney employs an Aboriginal Education Officer who contributes to creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment for indigenous students.
Students with special needs
Taronga Zoo Sydney accepts students with special needs, as long as support is available and students are suitable for particular Zoo work areas. Please contact the Education Centre staff to discuss necessary arrangements.
Ultimately your school will need to approve the work experience placement so please direct all of your communication to the school careers adviser. Please do not contact the Zoo as our arrangements are also subject to the school calendar and we will be required to contact the school.
