Zoo achieves success at NSW Tourism Awards

Taronga Western Plains Zoo has won the NSW Tourism Award for Best Tourist Attraction at the NSW Tourism Awards gala ceremony held in Sydney on Thursday 28 November 2013.The Zoo received the best Tourism Attraction award ahead of other quality attractions in the state including Australian Reptile Park, Jenolan Caves, Byron Bay Conservation Park and Dolphin Magic.This is the third consecutive year the Zoo has been a finalist at the NSW Tourism Awards taking out silver in 2011 and now winning the Best Tourist Attraction category in 2013.“We are all very excited about our achievement at the NSW Tourism Awards,” said Taronga Western Plains Zoo, General Manager, Matthew Fuller.“We’ve been making lots of changes and improvements to the Zoo experience in recent years, and in the past 18 months have enjoyed some great successes with a highlight being the opening of our overnight immersive bush camping experience, Billabong Camp, and winning the Inland NSW Tourism Award for the second year in a row,” said Matt.“It’s great that what we’ve achieved over the past year is really being enjoyed by visitors and is now been recognised by the tourism industry at regional and State level.”“The next 12 months will be a really exciting time for the Zoo with $10 million worth of redevelopment taking place across the site”“I would like to encourage anyone who hasn’t yet seen the changes taking place at the Zoo to take some time to visit, see what’s new and see how the Zoo is evolving to ensure it remains the best inland tourism destination in New South Wales.”Taronga Western Plains Zoo will continue to maintain its high level of standard as an award winning tourism attraction with sights set on the further development of the Zoo in future.
