Taronga Western Plains Zoo has won a golden double at the NSW Tourism Awards gala ceremony held last night in Sydney, taking out top honours in two categories.
Zoo Director Matthew Fuller and members of the Zoo’s management team accepted the gold for Best Attraction and gold for Unique Accommodation.
“To win two awards at the state level is a wonderful accomplishment,” Mr Fuller said.
“This is the third consecutive year we’ve won the Unique Accommodation category, and the third consecutive year we’ve won an award in the Best Attraction category.”
Taronga Western Plains Zoo’s Unique Accommodation will now enter the NSW Tourism Awards Hall of Fame.
“We’re just so proud of our Zoo and the amazing experiences that we are delivering to our guests,” Mr Fuller said.
“We believe our consistent focus on developing and delivering high quality experiences has greatly contributed to this success, and we’re looking forward to future planned developments such as the soon to be opened Savannah Safari experience and, in 2017, the biggest project we have undertaken to date - Lion Pridelands. There are lots of exciting things to come and we’re very focussed on continuing to build the appeal of our destination.”
Mr Fuller said the awards were an incredible achievement for the whole Zoo team.
“The wins wouldn’t be possible without the wonderful animals in our care, our staff and volunteers, the support from the Dubbo community and the many visitors that come to the Zoo each and every year, supporting our wildlife conservation efforts.
Not only was last night a great night for the Zoo, it was a successful night for Dubbo with the Old Dubbo Gaol also taking out a bronze award in the Cultural Tourism category.
“The city of Dubbo performed so well at the awards, recognising the passion and hard work many people have invested in tourism in recent years. Dubbo really shone, demonstrating that the city is a top tourism destination.”
Taronga Western Plains Zoo is now looking forward to the Australian Tourism Awards, to be held in Darwin early next year.
