Happy Birthday to Zoo!

We’re celebrating our 35th birthday! That’s 35 years of memories at Taronga Western Plains Zoo. To mark the day, our oldest resident, Cuddles the African Elephant, was treated to a special Birthday 'cake', a cake-shaped puzzle box filled with with hay and vegetables. Cuddles was very excited about her treat and it didn't take long for it to be demolished! When we look back at the past 35 years , there are many great achievements in wildlife conservation including releasing Przewalski’s Horse back into the wild in Mongolia, achieving a world-first Black Rhino embryo via IVF and breeding the first Galapagos Tortoise hatchling in Australasia. These wildlife conservation achievements have been shared with over eight million visitors during the past 35 years.  Every visitor who passes through the gates has taken away a special memory about the Zoo.  Whether this be riding a bike around the Zoo’s circuit, meeting some of the Zoo’s endangered and exotic animals or experiencing a behind the scenes animal encounter. What’s your favourite memory of a visit to Taronga Western Plains Zoo?
