Snakes! Rock stars! Cockatoos! Harbour views!Where else could you find all of these things together in the same place, but at Taronga Zoo?In what was an extremely wild morning, two-fourths of veteran Aussie rock band, The Church, decided to drop by Taronga’s Free Flight Bird Show Amphitheatre to say hello to some fellow wild Australians, including a Carpet Python and a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo.Front-man Steve Kilbey and beat-man Tim Powles were in the neighborhood to promote their band’s upcoming show to be held at Taronga Zoo’s very own Concert Lawns, which will kick-start Taronga’s annual summer concert series: Twilight at Taronga.The Church boys, who were inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame at last year’s ceremony after 30 odd years of slugging it out in the music business, mischievously wise-cracked and chuckled their way through their animal encounter, despite the sweat-inducing heat of what was to become an absolute scorcher of a spring day.“We should burst into our song ‘Reptile’!” Joked Kilbey as he tentatively approached one of Taronga’s Carpet Pythons. “This snake could easily be a member of the music industry... he’s slimy and he’s got no ears!”The Church will return to the Zoo on Saturday 28th January, for a special 2 hour set to launch the Twilight at Taronga summer concert series for 2012. They’ll be joined by some of the country’s most iconic artists such as Diesel, Richard Clapton, James Reyne, Mark Seymour and Wendy Matthews to name a few.Ticket-holders will receive complimentary entry into the zoo after 3pm on the afternoon of their chosen concert, where they’ll be free to explore the grounds to their heart’s content until the time comes to nestle down with a cold one or a glass of bubbly and enjoy the magic of live music Harbourside at twilight.Snakes!
