City of Sydney Media Release 2010 marks the 30th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Sydney and Nagoya.  To celebrate this milestone of international friendship, understanding and goodwill, City of Sydney and the Sydney-Nagoya Sister City Committee is delighted to present an exhibition of photographs taken at the Sister Cities’ Zoos. The Sydney-Nagoya Sister Zoo Photographic Exhibition is inspired by the gift of photographs from Nagoya Higashiyama Zoo to Taronga Zoo to mark Taronga’s 90th birthday in 2006.  These exquisite animal portraits were taken by Hirofumi Matsushima, renowned wildlife photographer and official photographer of the Friends of Higashiyama Zoo Association. For this exhibition, Hirofumi Matsushima’s images will be complimented by a series of equally beautiful photographs taken at Taronga Zoo, Sydney and Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo by Sydney’s multi award-winning photographer, Rick Stevens. This highlights the Sister Zoo relationship between Taronga Zoo, Sydney and Nagoya Higashiyama Zoo, Japan which was formalised in 1996.  Several animals, including Koalas, Western Lowland Gorillas and François’ Langurs, featured in the photographs are involved in conservation breeding exchange programs between the two zoos and illustrate the effectiveness of international co-operation between zoos in conservation and education.
