This week Taronga Western Plains Zoo celebrated National Science Week with special workshops for schools all about reproduction.Students from Gulargambone Central School and Trundle Central School visited the Zoo to learn about reproductive strategies used on various species, breeding programs within the Zoo and new and emerging reproductive technologies.  Students also learnt about Taronga Western Plains Zoo’s ‘frozen zoo’ and how genetic material is collected from many different species and cryo-preserved.As part of the National Science Week activities students made ice cream using liquid nitrogen, a gas used in cryopreservation techniques.National Science Week provides an opportunity to acknowledge Australian scientists’ contributions to the world of knowledge, encouraging interest in scientific pursuits and getting younger people fascinated by the world in which we live.By Senior Education Officer, Kristy Robberts
