Taronga Zoo Sydney is looking for motivated and people centric Guest Experience Volunteers to join our team and assist with creating transformational experiences for guests at our award-winning site located on Sydney Harbour! 

About the Role…

Taronga Guest Experience Volunteers are at the forefront of delivering amazing experiences for the guests that visit Taronga Zoo each year. With keeper talks, animal encounters, unique experiences and special events, Taronga inspires our guests to be ‘For the Wild’.

Guest Experience Volunteers are enthusiastic and customer service focussed individuals. These volunteers act as information ambassadors and wildlife champions to our guests. They must be passionate about conservation and sustainability, and able to communicate our critically important messages to groups and individuals from both Australia and overseas.
 

Core duties

  • Act as an ambassador ‘For the Wild’ and communicate effectively
  • Represent Taronga in a positive and respectful light
  • Provide excellent customer service that will enhance the experience of our guests including
    -Welcome and farewell guests with a warm and friendly smile
    -Provide advice, recommendations and tips on what to see and how to navigate our extensive site
    -Engage with guests in grounds, offering assistance and wayfinding advice
  • Interpret wildlife behaviour, activations and conservation campaigns
  • Support tour groups, encounters and a variety of experiences 
  • Demonstrate flexibility in a fast-paced and changeable environment
  • Be proactive in problem solving, including resolving customer feedback
  • Lead by example with kindness and positivity

Position details

  • The Guest Experience Volunteer role is available 7 days per week, Monday to Sunday. 
  • Our volunteers commit to a regular day per week OR per fortnight. 
  • Shift times are 8.45am-4pm or 10am-3pm.
  • Minimum commitment is 12 months, either 1 day per week OR 1 day per fortnight
  • Successful applicants will be required to attend a short interview on either the 14th August OR 15th August 2024
  • The Guest Experience Volunteer role is available 7 days per week, Monday to Sunday.

  • Successful individuals will be required to attend 3 (three) mandatory Induction & Training sessions on:
    -Session 1: 29th August or 31st August
    -Session 2: September TBC
    -Session 3: September TBC

 

Other requirements

  • A good level of fitness and stamina and the ability to work in all weather conditions for the full shift whilst navigating the steep site at Taronga Zoo Sydney (estimated 13,000 steps per shift)
  • A willingness to learn about Taronga’s conservation focused activities and programs
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and excellent customer service skills
  • Commitment, punctuality, reliability, and a professional, friendly manner
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • All volunteers are required to have a current Working with Children Check  (FREE for volunteers)
  • Agree and comply with the Taronga Code of Conduct, Taronga Volunteer Policy and all relevant policies and procedures
